Regulations for module selection in the area of the General Study Course

Necessary conditions for recognition:

  • Only graded modules offered in a Master's program can be credited.
  • The lecturer has a teaching assignment at the TU Darmstadt.
  • Examinations in interdisciplinary subjects must be registered like all other examinations.
  • The module requirements must be fulfilled.

Modules that meet the following conditions will be recognized in any case (sufficient conditions):

  • Graded modules not offered by one of the involved departments (law and economics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering). For non-engineering or business subjects from these departments, individual consultation with the mentor is required.
  • The following language courses offered by the Language Center, as far as they do not correspond to the native language:
    • English, French, Spanish from UNICERT II
    • Other languages starting at basic level
    • For foreign students only: German courses from UNICERT III level or German courses related to technology.

As language courses are in great demand and there are regularly more registrations than spots available, early registration is recommended. More information can be found on the pages of the Language Center.

Foreign language modules, just like all other modules, are completed with examinations for which registration at the Language Center is required. International students are encouraged to attend German courses.

A placement test is required for participation in language courses offered by the Language Center. The result of this test is binding for the respective language module. Therefore, neither higher level nor lower level courses can be attended in the specific language.

The form issued by the Internship office must be submitted to the Examination office (study office Department 13).

The Master's thesis is to be written in the main in-depth discipline. It comprises 24 CP and must be completed within six months. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the thesis is supervised by a research assistant in a timely manner.

The requirements for starting the Master's thesis is the recognition of the internship and the fulfillment of all obligations that may have been imposed in the context of the admission to the Master's program.

The individual departments regulate the exact procedure and requirements for the thesis theirselves (e.g. final presentation). The topic of a Master's thesis can be returned once after a maximum of eight weeks.
